Celle-ci\u00a0va p\u00e9n\u00e9trer dans l\u2019\u0153il, et plus pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment dans la r\u00e9tine, pour ensuite atteindre les centres de r\u00e9gulation des rythmes circadiens dans le cerveau c&rsquo;est-\u00e0-dire le m\u00e9canisme jour-nuit et veille-sommeil. Les rythmes sont r\u00e9gul\u00e9s par diff\u00e9rents marqueurs externes dont le plus important est la lumi\u00e8re du jour. Quand il existe des variations de lumi\u00e8re du jour, l&rsquo;horloge circadienne s&rsquo;en trouve perturb\u00e9e et bouscul\u00e9e.\u00a0L&rsquo;objectif est de resynchroniser les rythmes circadiens par la r\u00e9gulation de mol\u00e9cules chimiques au niveau du cerveau. La principale mol\u00e9cule chimique impact\u00e9e est la m\u00e9latonine. Il y a un certain nombre de patients qui, aujourd\u2019hui, ne vont pas r\u00e9pondre au traitement antid\u00e9presseur ou qui vont y r\u00e9pondre de mani\u00e8re insuffisante. L&rsquo;origine de la d\u00e9pression peut alors \u00eatre diff\u00e9rente.
